As the nation celebrates Pride month, Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s own Student Pride event, organised by SUÂ鶹´«Ã½, marked another year of recognisingand celebrating our LGBTQ+ communities on campus.Ìý
Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Student Pride event took place on Talbot Campus on Tuesday 23 April and began with a traditional Pride parade where Â鶹´«Ã½ students joined students from Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) on a colourful, fun march across campus carrying rainbow banners, ending at the SUÂ鶹´«Ã½ Building.Ìý
Pride Month is traditionally celebrated annually in June to honor the LGBTQ+ community, their historical work in raising awareness of their struggle for civil rights and the ongoing pursuit of equality.Ìý
Along with the parade there were stalls laid out on the ground floor of the SUÂ鶹´«Ã½ Building. LGBT charities and businesses also came along to showcase their products and services. Visiting students could get their face painted and take part in live poetry readings.Ìý
Â鶹´«Ã½ student and Trans, Non-Binary, Intersex & Gender Identity + Officer, Charlie Lavender, who helped organise the event said: “As part of my role, it’svery rewarding to see events like this go so well. We have a lovely community of inclusive people here, especially with the number of student network groups here at SUÂ鶹´«Ã½. As a student, when you’re adjusting to a lot of things, all at once, it’s great to have those networks to support youâ€Ìý
Kenny, a student who attended the parade said: “I think it’s important that SUÂ鶹´«Ã½ organises events like these because it helps bring us all together.â€Ìý
