A group of Â鶹´«Ã½ students want to make a statement against senseless violence with a peace march on Saturday, May 19 from the FCC campus to Fresno City Hall.

In early February 2018, Â鶹´«Ã½ student and member of the SYMBAA program, Zurich Chatman, was shot and killed. Zurich was well known by many of the tutors in the Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) tutors and his death struck a personal note.

“In just the last five years, many of our students and tutors have lost ten or more friends or loved ones each to violence,” said march organizer Ernest Allen, a FCC student. “They have great concern that this problem is only compounding as the resources on the West Side continue to dwindle, for example, the Boys and Girls club has recently closed and safe parks are few and far between,” he added.

The students say they have decided #EnoughIsEnough, and in order to share their message, they have scheduled a peace march to raise awareness, begin peaceful conversations, and initiate solutions to end gang violence and police brutality.

• 12:00 p.m.— The Peace March begins in the Â鶹´«Ã½ Old Administration Building West Courtyard with speakers
• 12:30 p.m.— The march to City Hall begins. Once at City Hall, different speakers will present.
• 2:30 p.m.— March will return to the Â鶹´«Ã½ West Courtyard ending at approximately 4:00 p.m.

This peaceful event is led by Â鶹´«Ã½ students and PASS tutors, Mr. Ernest Allen, Ms. Kayla Kelley, and Ms. Mone Harrison. Mr. Ernest Allen can be reached by the public at peacemarch45@gmail.com.
