Black History Month

Empowering Black Culture is the theme of this year’s Black History Month celebration at Â鶹´«Ã½.  It is hosted by the African American Faculty and Staff Association. The month-long celebration begins Thursday, February 1 with an Opening Ceremony at Noon in the Old Administration Building Auditorium.

The Opening Ceremony will include the singing of the Black National Anthem by FCC Instructor Deborah Lewis and a Libation Ceremony. This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Cassandra Little, Executive Director and CEO of the Fresno Metro Black Chamber of Commerce. 

WEEK 2:

  • 2/6 – Fresno Chapter Association of Black Social Workers, Presenter: Nancy Gray, founding member of Black Social Workers – 12:00 -1:00pm – OAB 188
  • 2/7 – Umoja Presents: Porch Talk- Black Love & Pride - 11:30am-1pm - OAB 251
  • 2/8 – Black Wellness & Prosperity Center Presenter Tash Manning, Black Infant Health Program Coordinator – 12-1 pm – OAB 188
  • 2/8 – Black Student Associations @ Design Science Middle College High School – A Night in Black History Community Event – FCC Cafeteria- 5:30-7:30 pm

WEEK 3:

  • 2/13- HBCU Spring 2024 Caravan-  FCC Transfer Center hosts a free event with over 20 Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU). - Tuesday, February 13- 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm- OAB 251 
    • The event is open to all State Center Community College students.
    • Learn more about HBCU transfer opportunities and scholarships from HBCU outreach staff
    • $2.5 million in HBCU Scholarships were awarded to SCCCD students last year!
  • 2/14- Scholarship Workshop- Presenter Josephine Llanos, FCC Scholarship Specialist, 12-1 pm – OAB 251
  • 2/15- Lecture Series- Presenter: FCC Instructor, Mr. Auguste Kouadio – Book Title: Things Fall Apart. Author: Achebe, Chinua. Location: Library Conference Room – LI 107. 2:00-3:30 pm

WEEK 4:

  • 2/20 – Financial Literacy – Presenter: Hasan Muhammad – 12:00–1:00 pm – OAB 172
  • 2/22- CalTrans Careers & Opportunities Presenter: Heather Lewis- 11 am-12:30 pm – OAB 251

Closing Week

  • 2/27 – Building Generational Wealth: Real Estate – 12:00 – 1:00 pm – OAB 251
  • 2/28- Speakers Forum presents Hip-Hop Legend Chuck D, 6:00 pm, OAB Auditorium
  • 2/29- Black History Month—Closing Ceremony – 12-1:00 pm – OAB Auditorium
